This 5-piece from Newcastle appear to be playing all over the place right now. With Rattlesnake Remedy, Red Star Rebels and Kid Ego support slots under their belt, they are now out on the road promoting this, their debut single 'Bite The Hook'.
No nonsense, straight forward, back to basics hard rock is the order of the day. Opening with crunching guitars, 'Bite The Hook' has a touch of sleaze about it. Frontman Roachie handles the lead vocals well, reminding me of Rocky Shades at times, but I can't help thinking there's something missing. Backing vocals appear to be lacking, which gives a slightly hollow feel at times, when the guitars pause. The track starts off really well, but for me it seems to lose its way a little towards the end.
The second track, 'Road Religion' unfortunately suffers the same. Starting off really well with up-tempo overdriven axes, again I think backing vocals could've beefed up this track into a real anthem. The one-line chorus does seem to be over-used, but I did like its stop/start nature. Lyrically, there's not much to write home about with this song. A very basic hard rocker of a tune.
For a band that's not been
round for very long, they appear to be heading in the right direction. I'd like
to catch them live; I can imagine the show being full of energy with the huge
guitar sound. Now if they can get those guys adding some thickness to the choruses,
and - I don't mean this harshly - some lyrics that hold people's attention,
they'll be well on their way.
