The Donnas - Turn 21

The Donnas are back with their fourth (!) studioalbum. Their selftitled debut is one of my favourite albums, the perfect combo of a great concept and supersongs. When the Donnas were seventeen, they sounded like RAMONES flirting with THE GO GO's. At 21, they're much closer to KISS. A development I'm not supporting. Though every Donnas' album has been good, they've been on a downhill ride ever since their debut.

"Turn 21" doesn't contain many weak songs... unfortunately it doesn't contain that many good either. The first single "40 Boys in 40 Nights", "Drivin' through my heart", "Little Boy", "Police Blitz" and "Nothing to do" are catchy and match the usual standard of the DONNAS. The Rest of the songs sounds pretty much the same and lack hooks.

"Turn 21" also features a cover of JUDAS PRIEST's "Living after midnight". If you enjoy THE DONNAS covers, check out their versions of SWEET's "Wig Wam Bam" and REO SPEEDWAGONS "Keep on loving you".

Fans of the DONNAS will probably not be that disappointed but don't make it your first donnasalbum. I Believe in this band but "Turn 21" is simply not good enought to take them to the next level.
