4ft Fingers - New Beginnings of OId Stories

Having been around in one form or another since 1996 and now on their fourth or fifth CD, this 12 tracker by UK "punk" four piece 4ft Fingers holds no surprises whatsoever. I still can't quite place who they remind me of. At times it's the Clash at others it's the Skids and every now and again they make me think of the Dropkick Murphys.

This is perfect Radio 2 fodder and is not meant as an insult. It's well played, the band clearly know how to write a tune and the vocals are sufficiently tuneful for you to be able to work out what they're singing, if you can be bothered to listen closely enough. It'd fit neatly into most peoples radio shows and whereas I can't see the band ever filling enormodomes, with the right backing they could make a very nice living selling respectable volumes of CDs and selling out the college circuit and medium size venues.

There isn't a single track here that has leapt out and made me think "wow" but by the same token there's nothing here that'd prompt me to skip forward. Not really my cup of tea these days but it's all uniformly good and if melodic sanitised punk is your cup of tea then it's about time you started supporting a British band and bought yourself a copy.
