I fell in love when
I fell down the stairs, into the arms of a girl that really cared. She picked
me up, gave me some wine. She said, Let's go out and have a real good time!
I'm thinking, where did she come from with her heartbreak wine?
The Dogs D'amour are
still sippin' whiskey at the Dynamite Jet Saloon (without paying of course).
Eventhough the band has been buried at the graveyard of empty bottles for quite
some time, their spirit still lives among bulletproof poets, drunks and those
dedicated to rock ´n roll. The Dogs were the greatest balladeers the world has
ever seen or heard. Frontman and songwriter Tyla managed to reproduce his experiences
from the gutter in a convincing way. Life do look different through a bottle
and no one could swing it as well as the Dogs D'amour.
The Band formed in London fourteen years ago but soon relocated to Finland where
they recorded their first album "The State We're In". A deal
with Chine Records was secured in 1987 and "the 'unauthorised bootleg
album" was released. Ten songs influenced by Rolling
Stones and The Faces with Tylas "pouring-out-his-heart" vocals
and lyrics as the main assets.
The second album "Dynamite Jet Saloon" earned the dogs some
publicity. "I Don't Want You To Go", "Kid From Kensington"
and "How Come it Never Rains" were released as singles without
making any commercial impact worth mentioning. This was my first Dogs D'Amour
album and it contains their est material. Anyway, "The Dynamite Jet
Saloon" certainly created some buzz among fans of rock ´n roll.
The E.P "Graveyard of Empty Bottles" and "Errol
Flynn" (the latter also went under the monicker of "King
of Thieves") were both released in 1989. The single "Sattelite
Kid" got Dogs D'amour into Top of the Pops eventhough it's not one
of their better songs. The Swinging bottles crashed though when the following
album - "Straight" - was a major disappointment. The Dogs
D'amour were ironically their own victims of success (a song from "Straight")
and defunct. After a couple of years, almost drowning in disillusion, Tyla reformed
the band and put out what seems to be their last album - "More Unchartered
Heights of Disgrace". An impressive affair especially considering
the circumstances. The Band broke up again and Tyla continued his trail of tears
as a soloartist. Eventhough he is still an amazing poet, the magical touch of
Dogs D'amour can't be recreated.
The Dogs D'amour were a very influential band. Many of todays glam/sleaze bands
grow up listening to the aforementioned immortal albums. Fans of the band are
now puttin together a non-profit tribute album due to release in early 1999.
It will cost about $ 10.00 and will be available via mail. Interested bands
or fans should mail Nick Barolo satellitekid12@hotmail.com.
